MAGMA

Magma, Jungle Man is in an Irish city, far from home, on the run from an evil Corporation. Two streetwise kids adopt him. Can they help him defeat his foes?

MAGMA (real name Evan Dorward) was the lost baby of British holiday makers who carelessly left him behind after a camping trip in a Brazilian national park. A huge hunt to find him was abandoned when his clothes and animal paw prints were found. But Evan wasn't dead - he had been adopted by a group of bored wild dogs who taught him all they knew. Brave, athletic, open, charming, innocent, determined, idealistic, Magma now talks effortlessly with animals via strange guttural grunts.

When the A.P.C (Amazonian Petrol Corporation) moved in on his beautiful jungle homeland, Magma knew he had a fight on his hands. At first he managed to thwart some of their plans but they finally caught up with him, and he was kidnapped by Stripe Higgins (26), an underhand APC fixer, and his sidekick Taco (34). They are just about to torture him when they get a call; their new orders are to bring Magma back to their HQ with the aim of exploiting his animal whispering powers for their own ends. When we next see Magma, he is a prisoner on a plane flying through stormy skies at 10,000 feet. Using his brute strength, Magma breaks free from the ropes holding him and looks for an escape route. But there is only one way out of the plane. Magma opens the door and leaps out. His captors are stunned, thinking Magma must surely be dead.

But despite having no parachute, and against all odds - Magma survives. He lands on a bouncy castle, in a park adjoining a tough 60's housing estate, somewhere in Dublin. Streetwise local kids, DJ (12) and CHARLEY-MARIE (13) are passing. They watch Magma, and sense both his good heart and naivety about inner-city life. They know what it's like to be on the outside of the system. As the police vehicles swarm and sirens shriek, they dramatically intervene to rescue Magma.

Later, they learn of the danger he is in from the A.P.C, and realise that he won't survive in the urban jungle without their help. They decide to 'adopt' him and help him find a way to get him home so he can continue his fight.

Back in the Amazon, Magma's friends, BUNTY (23, an anthropologist), Zabu (48, Prince of the Leopard People) and KAI (a tame jaguar), continue the struggle. But Magma is at the heart of their resistance, in his role as the Jungle Envoy for Peace. They desperately need to locate Magma before a vital conference on the jungle’s future, and bring him home so he can take part.

Discovering he somehow survived, the ruthless A.P.C come after Magma, in the form of Stripe Higgins and Taco. They go undercover in a small hairdressing salon. They will stop at nothing to get Magma out of the way for ever. Despite Magma's resourcefulness he urgently needs help. His is alone in a foreign land with a deadly foe hunting him down. Luckily he can rely upon DJ and Charley. They know the mean streets. But are they up to such a huge challenge? They have their own issues and problems: Charley is looking for a dad she can hardly remember, DJ wants to escape the boredom of everyday life. To both of them it seems Magma knows so much and yet so little (as Charley says he's like a dad and an idiot brother rolled into one).  Perhaps with Magma's help this is their chance to take their place in the world?

But will they throw their lot in with this oddball and all the danger that seems to accompany him? You bet! DJ and Charley embark on an emotional journey too. Finally they have an adult figure they can relate to, someone they can believe in: Magma King of the Concrete Jungle. They begin by helping Magma get fixed up with a new home - he moves in with DJ and his single mum - party-girl and part-time security guard, ANDREA O’DONAL (37).

But as the net closes in, will Magma ever escape and make it to the Rainforest Conference in time?
